Overview
The Safety Representative role reinforces the critical importance of safety across all employee levels by implementing and upholding J.F. Electric's safety protocols. This role is integral in fostering strong professional connections with onsite field staff, management, and external bodies throughout operational activities. Positioned within the demanding context of a heavy utility environment, the Safety Representative is crucial in prioritizing safety practices in the field.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role has no direct reports.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducts orientation activities such as completing and checking paperwork on new hires, validating required experience and licensure, and collecting I-9 documentation
- Investigate incidents, injuries, damage to property, or other safety-related concerns.
- Completes incident reports, OSHA-required documentation, and other client reports.
- Critically assesses and evaluates hazards and takes corrective actions at the moment.
- Documents findings, including Root Cause Analysis
- Communicate with leadership and field personnel the investigation findings and recommendations for how to prevent reoccurrences.
- Verifies corrective measures have been completed (including recommendations of the safety committee, leaders, and those that arise from the suggestion programs)
- Enforces safety standards, conducts safety audits, participates in client safety meetings or conference calls; conveys information from specific clients about their specific safety requirements on a specific job site or client's work
- Coordinates with others to enforce work procedures, rules, and regulations related to safety
- Communicates safety and health information at employee meetings
- Posts safety communications in various locations as needed
- Establishes and maintains relationships with local safety agencies and insurance carriers to foster good communication between the company and external influences on safety
- Cross-train in all facets of the Safety Division, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and grow in responsibility and scope over time.
The person in this role will uphold the culture of J.F. Electric, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on J.F. Electric or client premises or at J.F. Electric-sponsored events.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety preferred or equivalent experience
- OSHA certifications beneficial, i.e., OSHA 30, OSHA 500, OSHA 10&20 T&D
- Certification as CUSP, CSP preferred
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
- Capable walk, stand, and climb during site visits and inspections.
- Must be able to lift and carry inspection tools and equipment.
- Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment as required for safety.
The physical requirements may vary depending on the industry and the specific nature of the work environment. The Safety Representative should be capable of meeting the physical demands associated with the industry in which they operate.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel to inspection sites within a designated region.
- Ability to travel on short notice based on operational needs.
- May require overnight stays for extended projects.
- Flexibility to adapt travel plans to meet project deadlines and safety requirements.
