What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Financial Analyst position at J.F. Shea Family of Companies?
The Senior Financial Analyst is a member of the central Financial Planning & Analysis team in Scottsdale, Arizona, supporting division operational managers to prepare monthly forecasts, facilitate budget updates, prepare monthly and quarterly reports, and perform ad-hoc analysis. Therefore, the Senior Financial Analyst must understand basic accounting and finance concepts, possess intermediate to advanced Excel skills, possess abilities to influence operational managers, and be comfortable collaborating in person and remotely across geographic locations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate in preparation of the annual plan and monthly forecast process including delivery of P&L and cash flow projections.
• Analyze and provide explanations for variances between actuals, forecast and annual plan. Communicate insights to VP of Finance and divisional personal and budget owners to support divisional plan and strategic decision-making processes.
• Provide corporate reporting & analysis including but not limited to, backlog gross margin, units, starts, community performance analysis and pricing.
• Facilitate and lead quarterly budget reviews with divisional operating departments (i.e., Land Acquisition, Community development, Operations, etc.).
• Prepare and update Selling, General & Administrative expense budgets.
• Prepare and review monthly lot allocations for monthly cost of sales calculation.
• Prepare, annotate, and distribute quarterly divisional reporting package. Partner with VP of Finance to effectively communicate and present quarterly financial results to senior and corporate leadership.
• Satisfy ad-hoc analyses and reporting as needed for division or operational teams, analysis of land acquisition opportunities, external stakeholders/ JV partners, Tax and Central Accounting.
• Seek opportunities to improving operational finance efficiency (e.g., process improvement & system enhancements).
• Partner with Central Accounting team and VP of Finance on transactions or accounting treatments / methods that could impact projected results and provide insight on actual financial results.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, and/or a Master of Business Administration.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional Finance experience in a complex business environment, with at least 1 year of homebuilding industry experience preferred.
• Practical experience with profitability analysis, variance & trend analysis, IRR, cash flow, and other common financial metrics.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including advanced Excel skills.
• Prior experience with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, OneStream Business Objects and PowerBi a significant plus.
• Possess effective communication and analytical skills, demonstrate attention to detail and be intellectually curious.
• Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and exhibit flexibility to manage and balance multiple priorities or assignments to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Ability to present complex financial concepts in simple terms to division and corporate managers.
• Experience improving efficiency and value-add of financial processes, including influencing managers and partners across geographic locations.
• Ability to travel quarterly for 1-3 business days may be required.
FUNCTIONAL
• Reports to a Finance Supervisor or Finance Manager
• Collaborates with division Vice President of Finance, Corporate Accounting, and Operational Senior Managers and Area Presidents.
