Skilled Laborer/Operator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Skilled Laborer & Equipment Operator to join our growing team at J. Green Excavating LLC. We are a small family owned and operated company, meaning this position requires an individual willing to wear multiple hats which may include operating heavy equipment, performing manual labor, assisting with general truck and equipment maintenance, snow plowing, and any other tasks that may arise. The ideal candidate will be safety-conscious, hardworking, and have a solid understanding of construction equipment and excavation operations. Applicants should understand that this position generally requires over time each week with projects that may last well into the evening.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate heavy machinery, including excavators, skid steers, bulldozers, and other equipment as needed.
• Safely load and secure equipment onto trailers, and transport trailers to job sites.
• Perform digging, grading, trenching, and backfilling tasks, ensuring work meets project specifications.
• Load and unload materials such as pipe, soil and gravel, and transport them to designated areas.
• Assist in the setup and breakdown of job sites, including clearing debris and preparing equipment for use.
• Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and conduct daily pre-operation checks for safety.
• Work closely with the site supervisor and team members to meet project deadlines and specifications.
• Assist in measuring and marking areas for excavation and construction.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized job site.
• Maintain clear communication with other crew members, supervisors, and clients.
• Have a working smart phone with proficiency in using maps for GPS, dropped pin locations, taking pictures, calling and texting.
• Be available on-call for snow plowing during the months of November-April (this may include nights, weekends and holidays)

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience in operating heavy construction equipment (excavators, bulldozers, skid steers,etc).
• Experience in manual labor and performing general construction tasks.
• Ability to read blueprints and construction plans is a plus.
• Strong understanding of excavation techniques and safety protocols.
• Physical ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• OSHA certification or willingness to obtain.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to pass a drug test.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently.
• Ability to work in outdoor environments, in all weather conditions.
• Standing, bending, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods.
