Responsibilities
- Walk dogs of various sizes and breeds, ensuring they receive adequate exercise and socialization.
- Monitor the behavior and health of each dog during walks, reporting any concerns to the owner.
- Provide basic training commands during walks to reinforce good behavior.
- Maintain a safe environment by using proper leash techniques and ensuring dogs are restrained when necessary.
- Clean up after dogs during walks to maintain cleanliness in the community.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their dog's behavior, needs, and any incidents that occur during walks.
- Assist with additional pet care tasks as needed, such as feeding or administering medications.
Skills
- Proficiency in dog training techniques to encourage positive behavior.
- Strong background in pet care, including knowledge of various breeds' needs.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary, such as carrying supplies or assisting larger dogs.
- Experience as a veterinary assistant or technician is a plus, providing insight into animal health and care.
- Excellent customer service skills to build rapport with pet owners.
- Strong animal handling skills to ensure safety for both the dog and the walker.
- Knowledge of animal restraint techniques when needed for safety purposes.
- Familiarity with equine care is a nice-to-have skill for those who may work with horses as well.
