Job Overview
J. Herbert Corporation, a small manufacturing firm in business for over 40 years, is looking for an accountant. The right candidate must possess a strong background in accounting, be highly organized and have excellent communication skills. This position works closely with the owner and the accounting assistant.
Accounting Responsibilities
- Manage income and expenditure accounts
- Generate balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports
- Reconcile company's bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers
- Monitor company's financial status
- Routinely check for and identify accounting errors. Correct errors.
- Review accounts payable and receivable.
- Review payroll to assure accuracy
- Conduct project accounting and process contractor applications for payment
- File notice to owner for contractor jobs
- Review customer applications for credit and work with owner to establish payment terms
- File and remit taxes and other financial obligations
- Participate in month-end and year-end close activities
- Collections
- Additional duties include maintenance of health and safety records and completion of customer questionnaires
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-10 years of accounting experience
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Experience reviewing financial statements
- Possess accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office products
- Superb oral and written communication skills
- Experience with Quickbooks software preferred not required and bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
