What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Superintendent position at J.I. Garcia Construction, Inc. - Fresno, CA?
The superintendent directs all day-to-day field operations. It is the superintendent’s duty to ensure the project time/cost/quality goals are fully executed in the field. The superintendent and field staff guide, expedite and coordinate the day-by-day progress of the work. The superintendent shall work closely with with the Project Manager and Quality Control Manager to assure that the manpower and material requirements are satisfied, and to schedule work far enough in advance so that the CPM milestone schedule is met.
The duties and responsibilities include the following:
A thorough knowledge of the goals, project plans, specifications and contract requirements.
- Understanding the intent and content of the Governments and subcontractors contract.
- Participate in the pre-project planning or design sessions when possible and/or as requested, to become familiar with the project peculiarities and offer practical advice pertaining to the project scope development/design or schedule. The superintendent must become familiar with the project scope, estimate, and the cost control system at the beginning of the project.
- Plan the work in advance, regularly review the plan with the project manager and the project engineer/coordinator, and advise of any anticipated delays caused by field problems, material shortages, subcontractor performance problems, or delivery problems to avert or mitigate schedule impacts.
- Review and concur with the final project schedule issued by project manager.
- Continually review and update progress, cost reports, schedules and requirements for completion. Ensure compliance with CQC and safety policies and programs.
- Investigate and recommend changes in methods, materials, schedules and procedures where practical on the project. (Produce deviation requests)
- Supervise and instruct field staff and subcontractors.
- Assist project manager during the subcontractor pre-construction conferences to familiarize all subcontractors with the project schedule, construction methods, company procedures and policies, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Understand the intent and content of all subcontracts. Plan the work and prepare a detailed construction schedule with the assistance of scheduling and project manager. Monitor the schedule and record actual progress of all activities on a daily basis.
- Ensure the subcontractors maintain adequate labor, equipment and material to execute the work in accordance with the schedule.
- Coordinate with the project manager to begin default or termination of any contractor not performing according to schedules or plans and specification. This action must be approved by the vice president of operations.
- Ensure adequate notice, with written confirmation, is given to a subcontractor prior to performing any work for which a back charge will be processed. (Review with Project manager).
- Conduct all job meetings related to field operations:
- Conduct a separate weekly progress meeting with all subcontractor representatives on the project to schedule and coordinate the activities to be accomplished during the next week. Issue minutes of all meetings
- Ensure that the company safety programs are fully and enforced at all times on the project, and that all records are in order pertaining to OSHA or the EM 385-1-1
- Conduct weekly safety meetings on the project. Coordinate with the SSHO and project manager for all procedures and training.
Prepare on a daily basis and submit to the general superintendent weekly the superintendent’s project daily report.
- Maintain a job diary noting all pertinent information relating to the project, especially information that is not included in or appropriate for the superintendent’s daily report.
- Initiate adequate procedures and controls for project site security. Understand the project related insurance coverage’s.
- Ensure observance of safety requirements.
- Review project applicable MSDS sheets with supervisor at each weekly safety meeting. Require subcontractors to update their listing at the weekly superintendent safety meetings.
- Enforce company drug and alcohol policy.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
