GENERAL SUMMARY:
Manages and coordinates the activities of the Mechanics engaged in servicing and repairing trucks, trailers, and all other support vehicles in the delivery fleet.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Interviews and selects qualified candidates to fill vacant positions within Fleet team.
- Establishes work schedule for Mechanics to ensure adequate manpower to meet daily requirements.
- Coordinates and tracks employees’ vacations and other time away from work.
- Provides training and coaching to direct reports.
- Clearly communicates expectations regarding on-the-job performance to direct reports.
- Demonstrates J.J. Taylor’s core values and leads by example as an ambassador of the company by supporting and enforcing company policies and procedures.
- Proactively addresses issues affecting team and constructively solves problems.
- Responsible for reinforcing safe work practices and ensuring compliance with safety rules, policy and programs.
- Reports all accidents or injuries immediately to the Safety Manager. Performs accident investigations in a timely manner and completes accident reports within 24 hours of any known accident.
- Responsible for ensuring Safety Talks and Safety Observations are occurring on a consistent basis and supporting a strong Safety culture.
- Observes safety practices to ensure compliance with standards.
- Manages and maintains the budget for area of responsibility.
- Completes daily repair orders and all other required paperwork in CMMS systems.
- Manages the daily activities of the Maintenance Shop to ensure all necessary tasks are accomplished in a timely fashion and recorded in CMMS systems.
- Coordinates maintenance of all delivery trucks, trailers, forklifts and other equipment.
- Maintains inventory within budget of all supplies required for fleet management.
- Orders parts when needed and sets up parts deliveries.
- Prepares trucks and equipment for DOT inspections in order to ensure compliance.
- Handles performance management issues with employees and effectively resolves conflict.
- Conducts team meetings to review business issues affecting the team.
- Regularly review and edits payroll records in Dayforce to ensure accuracy.
- Assists drivers with small mechanical problems that may arise on a daily basis.
- Ensures garage is kept in clean and safe working order.
- Coordinates with Routing Manager to ensure proper equipment is available to perform deliveries.
- Ensures that all other managers’ equipment needs from the fleet are met.
- Assists mechanics with their daily functions as required.
- Performs any additional duties and special tasks assigned by Vice-President, Fleet & Facilities.

- Required to inspect and/or repair Fleet/Facility equipment such as tractor trailers, forklifts, etc
- Occasionally required to move around tight and low areas when repairing trucks and other equipment.
- Able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally push/pull up to 75 lbs.
- High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4-5 years experience in Fleet Maintenance.
- Previous management/supervisory experience
- Knowledge of Fleet/Shop Maintenance software
- Valid Class A CDL license and acceptable driving record required.
- Technical Certifications in the following: A/C and Refrigeration.
- Warehouse and office environment.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and machinery with moving parts.
- Some possible exposure to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, electrical shock, loud noise, fumes, explosives, chemicals and other toxicants.
