As J&M Printing continues to grow, the role of General Manager is critical to our success. This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations in Gwinner, ND and ensuring the highest levels of quality, productivity, and safety across all departments.
Essential Functions: The essential functions of the General Manager include but are not limited to the following major responsibilities.
· Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships by understanding the needs of our customers.
· Ensure all projects/jobs are delivered on time and meet the company's strict standards for quality and operational efficiency.
· Meet financial goals in cost containment and operational efficiencies.
· With a strong emphasis on transparent communication, the General Manager will lead by example, driving a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and employee development.
· This position plays a key role in the implementation of the company’s MIS Pace system and data accuracy, while also developing and mentoring future leaders within the company.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Excellence & Productivity
o Ensure that production goals and deadlines are consistently met, maintaining the highest level of quality.
o Monitor and improve operational efficiency, focusing on minimizing downtime and maximizing output.
o Oversee the execution of daily production schedules to guarantee on-time deliveries.
o Implement and sustain the 5S methodology across the facility to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workplace.
2. Quality Control & Metrics
o Maintain quality standards and ensure continuous improvement in all processes to meet production and product specifications.
o Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate performance against productivity and quality metrics.
o Establish regular performance reviews and audits to assess operations and implement corrective actions as needed.
3. Safety Management
o Promote and enforce a culture of safety in all aspects of the business.
o Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and proactively identify and mitigate safety risks.
o Provide safety training and ensure that all team members follow the safety protocols.
4. Clear Communication
o Develop open communication channels with employees at all levels, ensuring transparency in decision-making and company goals.
o Collaborate with the leadership team to communicate progress on key initiatives and identify areas of improvement.
o Provide regular updates to the CEO on operational status, goals, and performance metrics.
5. MIS Pace Implementation & Data Collection
o Oversee the successful implementation of the MIS Pace system across production and administrative functions.
o Develop accurate and timely data collection for reporting and analysis.
o Ensure that key data inputs are being recorded properly and that system-generated reports are used to inform decision-making.
6. Leadership Development & Team Building
o Lead and develop the leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability, performance, and collaboration.
o Identify high-potential employees and develop training and mentoring programs to cultivate future leaders within the organization.
o Regularly evaluate and provide feedback on employee performance to ensure continuous growth and development.
7. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
o Drive initiatives that promote a culture of innovation and continuous process improvement.
o Stay current on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices, recommending changes or investments as appropriate to maintain a competitive edge.
8. Leading Individuals and Teams for Systems to build depth
o All critical positions - always striving to create Standard Operating Procedures and Training systems to create depth - allowing for growth within J&M.
Qualifications
1. Experience:
· 5 years of experience in a management or leadership role; experience in the printing industry is helpful but not required
· Proven experience in overseeing operations, managing teams, and driving business growth
· Experience in budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting
· Knowledge of production processes and operational workflows (helpful if familiar with the printing process)
2. Technical Skills:
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for day-to-day tasks, communication, and reporting
· ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system experience (knowledge of print-specific ERP systems is an advantage)
· Familiarity with printing software (such as Adobe Creative Suite, RIP software, or print management software) is an advantage
3. Leadership and Management Skills:
· Strong team leadership abilities and experience managing cross-functional teams
· Proven ability to mentor and develop staff to improve performance and promote career growth
· Excellent decision-making, organizational, and strategic thinking skills
· Strong problem-solving capabilities to address operational challenges and find efficient solutions

4. Communication Skills:
· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for internal and external stakeholders
· Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and other partners
· Strong presentation skills, able to present ideas and progress reports to the board or senior management
5. Operational & Analytical Skills:
· Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and quality control within the printing industry (or general manufacturing experience)
· Ability to analyze production data and optimize workflows for efficiency, cost savings, and quality
· Familiarity with supply chain management and inventory control processes
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
· Work is performed both in an office and on the production floor.
· Mobility: The ability to move freely and easily from one place to another is essential for this role.
· Lifting: Occasionally it may be required to lift materials.
· Stamina: The ability to sit or walk for an extended period of time is required.
