We’re excited to invite a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Estimator! In this role, you’ll play a key part in estimating, managing, and reviewing the scope of contractor projects, to ensure their successful execution and completion. While we’re looking for someone with experience in Underground estimating, we also welcome estimator candidates from the “Site Prep” or “Construction” fields who are interested in becoming experts in the progressive world of Underground/Construction and show the ability to learn quickly and grow.
Key Responsibilities:
Develops, expands and cultivates a qualified customer base
Solicits and establishes customer needs
Negotiates price and terms within the context of company policy
Takes and submits orders for services
Prepares estimates used for managing purposes, such as planning, organizing and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors and determining cost effectiveness
Assures that the Job Cost Sheet is fully completed and sent to the field administrator for Job Costing
Consults with customers, vendors or subcontractors to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to assist in the preparation of time, cost, materials and labor estimates
Responds to inquiries from customers and subcontractors regarding areas of expertise
Develops, submits, implements, manages and reports on sales goals and the business development plan in accordance with company policies and systems
Maintains product knowledge of existing and new products and services
Gathers and forwards information on competitor activities
In this position you will:
- Collaborate with management to evaluate potential projects, identify bidding strategies, and choose the best techniques to ensure competitive pricing.
- Review and finalize estimate packages in partnership with the VP of Business Development, ensuring everything is accurate and complete before submission.
- Negotiate contracts and change orders to meet company standards and ensure the best possible outcomes.
- Provide support to field management teams by fully explaining the needed “Scope of Work” presented to the client in order to assure full compliance in time and form.
- Create detailed labor breakdowns and comprehensive material takeoffs.
- Assist in preparing submittals, including material and method recommendations and cost estimates, to ensure projects are strategically planned.
- Develop “hand-off profiles” to ensure the field team is set up for success on future projects.
- Work independently in an office environment, using specialized software to efficiently complete tasks.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma is required; higher education is a plus but not necessary.
- Familiarity with underground construction tasks and requirements is highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with contractors, colleagues, supervisors, and project stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are essential in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills to convey information effectively.
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish is a bonus but not required.
- Ability to work well in a team and present confidently in high-pressure situations.
- Strong composure and professionalism in stressful situations.
