What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at J. Morrissey?
In partnership with our client, we are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and finance function as the company continues to grow. The Controller will report directly to the CEO of the mission driven organization and play an instrumental role in the continued success of the organization. This is a full-cycle, hands-on controllership position for a privately held organization and be responsible for developing financial strategies, quarterly and annual budgets, financial projections, and guidance for management review.
Responsibilities :
Maintain accurate records of financial transactions
Reconcile bank statements, invoices, and receipts
Prepare and process client invoices for submission to client accounts payable
Process contractor and vendor invoices for payment
Prepare monthly accruals for clients
Calculate employee wages, deductions, and taxes
Ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations through collaboration with payroll processor
Manage Time Management system utilizing inputs for payroll processing and tracking of billable hours for relevant client invoices
Prepare and file business tax returns, e.g. sales tax, withholding tax, 1099’s for contractors and clinical sites
File annual state reports as required
Process site payments for client programs reimbursing sites for patient visits and expenses
Track escrow balance and manage payments in coordination with client balance. Provide quarterly reports to clients or as needed for review / audit of escrow account and payments upon client request.
Reconcile bank account transactions
Reconcile credit card account transactions
Prepare monthly budget plans and reports for management review
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
Follow established change management procedures.
Requirements
Bachelors Degree and 5 years of controllership experience
Thorough understanding GAAP and financial statements
Familiar with cost, financial, and managerial accounting
Excellent communication, presentation and time management skills required
Prioritize work based upon urgency and importance
Provide insights for decision-making
Must be adaptable and able to work well within a team and relate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
Ability to interact collaboratively with colleagues in order to train, enhance skill set, and knowledge base on specific topics, e.g. New approaches to site payments management
Able to inspire a team to excel by fostering a climate of energy, excitement and personal accountability
Ability to work independently and within teams
Sense of urgency, works collaboratively
Excellent working knowledge of Intuit QuickBooks Desktop and Desktop Enterprise
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
