ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
(FLSA – Exempt)
Department: Operations Reports to: Superintendent
JOB OBJECTIVE
Assist in the overall on-site administrative and technical management for a wide range of construction projects. Contributes in promoting business opportunities with various market segment clients. Performs all functions in accordance with the company’s culture and core values.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning, leading and coordinating project start-up activities, including formulating project objectives, policies, procedures, site mobilization activities and performance standards for work activities for a particular project.
- Support the maintenance of an accurate and detailed project schedule, prepare and distribute monthly updates and look-ahead schedules, while ensuring subcontractors are maintaining job momentum by adhering to schedule timelines.
- Assist in the implementation of quality assurance procedures of construction activities, including daily tours of the project site to inspect and verify that work is being put in place in accordance with plans, contract specifications and schedule.
- Aids in the implementation of safety program and daily safety inspections that create a safe and healthy work environment throughout the job site and adheres to OSHA safety and record keeping requirements.
- Advise senior level superintendents of potential problems, work interferences or schedule difficulties, while assisting in circumventing or mitigating such conflicts. Provide assistance to involved contractors in resolving problems.
- Interfaces with owner, architect, engineer(s), design professionals and municipalities to ensure compliance to design intent and owner satisfaction. Facilitates discovery and correction of contract document “errors and omissions” and problem solving so as to reduce the costs incurred.
- Assists in the timely compliance with all internal and external document and record keeping requirements, with particular emphasis on accurate daily diaries/reports/logs, as well as required legal, safety and manpower documentation.
- Provide liaison between project management and specialty contractors to ensure construction complies with plans, specifications and company quality standards and that the project is completed on time and within budget.
- Aids in the job close-out process by administering the punch-list process, assembling close-out documents (including as-built drawings) and performing building commissioning and owner training.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by superiors or as required for successful project completion.
Preferred Education and Experience
Extensive experience/knowledge of construction, design and management required. Minimum 3 years of construction engineering or similar experience preferably in a supervisory capacity. Preferred 2 or 4 year construction degree or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Aptitudes
- Ability to analyze and develop solutions to complex problems and to communicate effectively with diverse groups required.
- Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines: design, scheduling, cost control, quality control and engineering drawings.
- Working knowledge industry specific computer systems and software preferred.
- Must have comprehensive understanding of safety regulations and the application of loss control measures.
- Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence) skills essential.
Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to see well (either naturally or with correction); speak and hear; use hands to reach for, handle and feel objects. The employee is occasionally required to climb on things and maintain balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and lift up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment
The position is located both inside a climate controlled trailer, and outside. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently inspect the project and may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
