Summary:

The Host/Hostess will be responsible for greeting guests at the door with a pleasant smile, providing accurate wait times, and escorting customers to the dining and bar areas, and using guest names if known. For this role, you should have solid organizational and people skills to make sure our guests have a positive dining experience from the moment they arrive until their departure. The ultimate goal will be to provide high-quality service that will help us maintain and attract guests.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

General:

The Host/Hostess will welcome guests into our restaurant, provide accurate wait times and monitor waiting lists by managing online reservations using OpenTable and walk-ins. Guests placing phone calls with any questions or requiring information will also fall under your tasks. You will also be responsible for escorting customers to waiting areas or assigned dining/bar areas, providing menus and announcing waiter/waitress’ names. Ensuring tables are ready for seating guests, constantly monitoring dining activity, inspecting menus for cleanliness and assisting servers when necessary.

Food & Safety:

The Host must be knowledgeable of common food allergens and be able to communicate any guest allergies to the kitchen. Memorization of the offered menu will also be required. The Host will also be required to follow basic safety guidelines in the kitchen (i.e. non-slip shoes, hair pulled back, proper handwashing) to comply with Food and Safety regulations. Catering to guests who require extra attention (e.g. children, elderly, handicapped) by seating placement or chair placements.

Guest Service:

Must have a positive, engaging personality, and professional appearance. Welcome guests to the restaurant and thank guests for coming in upon their departure. The host must also handle feedback, compliments or complaints, with a positive attitude and report immediately to a supervisor. Coordination with servers and bartenders will be required to evaluate available seating options for incoming guests. The host/hostess may also be asked to set tables and rearrange the dining area to accommodate larger groups and prepare the restaurant for special events

Requirements:

The Host/Hostess must have clear written and verbal communication skills (via phone and in-person), have the physical abilities to carry out the functions of the job description, availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. An understanding of restaurant etiquette, familiarity with health and safety regulations, and being able to demonstrate strong customer-service skills will also be required. Assigning guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of customers. Being able to provide high quality work while unsupervised while keeping a positive attitude.

Accountabilities:

The Host/Hostess will need to keep the Manager and Owners promptly and fully informed of all issues (i.e. problems, unusual matters or significance and positive events) and take prompt corrective action where necessary or suggest alternative courses of action. The host will need to complete job responsibilities and performance objectives in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with procedures. Maintains a favorable working relationship with all company employees in order to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate; which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, and efficiency/effectiveness. At all times, the host must provide a favorable image to promote “Genuine Service” philosophy to employees and guests. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

Working Conditions:

The Host/Hostess will need to be able to perform all functions at the restaurant level. The position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting products and supplies weighing up to 45 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist motion. The Host/Hostess will also be required to work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as operating phones, computers, fax machines, copiers, and other office equipment.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour
