Job Description
Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Police Sergeant will respond to the safety and security needs of a diverse population of faculty, staff and students at a multi-campus college. The incumbent will enforce the rules and regulations of the college and department and the laws of the commonwealth and serve the community by providing professional and efficient law enforcement services.
In fulfilling this objective, the Police Sergeant will execute supervisory duties and responsibilities that are performed in a courteous and professional manner in order to uphold the image and respect of the department and the college. In this role, the incumbent will ensure sufficient law enforcement practices are accomplished to support the academic environment. Additionally, the Police Sergeant will properly utilize resources available and to use sound judgment in the application and interpretation of laws and regulations and work with neighboring law enforcement agencies and court systems.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's / Required Qualifications
- Must be able to function mentally and physically under stress and emergency situations.
- Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- General working knowledge of statute enforcement and safety concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.
- Working knowledge of customer service practices and principles.
- Must have the skills to operate a motor vehicle safely.
- Demonstrated ability to follow and give oral and written instructions in routine and emergency situations.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
