EHS Specialist Job Summary:
The EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) Specialist will drive full-time environmental, health, and safety programs to all Jtec facilities. They will drive Safety Campaigns, inspections/investigations and monitor programs to ensure that the sites manufacturing practices and the safety of our employees are a number one priority as well as in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regularly reviews EHS regulations, develops, updates, and supports implementation of various EHS policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with Jtec, and government EHS standards.
- Adheres to all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards.
- Educates team members on safe operations of new processes or modifications.
- Maintains a leadership presence on the plan floor, influence employee and leadership behaviors, and fully engage employees in the safety process.
- Coordinates facility promotion and implementation of an EHS culture, which secures effective implementation of policies, procedures, and responsibilities.
- Coordinates and enhances plant knowledge, engagement, and stability for OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program and lead the team to remail certified through sustainable programs and processes, including a culture of employee ownership, incident reporting, risk reduction and continuous improvement.
- Coordinates and conducts safety inspections and leads the facility incident investigation process to ensure incidents are reported on time, root causes are identified, and corrective actions are tracked through closure.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement, provide recommendations with priorities and action plans for review with management.
- Ensures proper follow-up, resolution and RCCA of all concerns identified through assessments, inspections, monitoring activities, or other means.
- Develops and delivers training to employees on EHS programs, including new employee orientation.
- Maintains all safety training documentation and/or certifications as required by company, state, and federal occupational health and safety standards.
- Leads monitoring activities necessary to ensure compliance with EHS regulations and Jtec initiatives, including material, process, and equipment review, emission and waste tracking, industrial hygiene, noise, ergonomics, visible emissions, odors, water discharges, control system parameters, etc.
- Evaluates new materials, materials use, equipment, and processes for potential risks and recommend modifications before introduction to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, promote a safe work environment and protect the environment.
- Develops, conducts, and maintains Job Safety/Hazard Assessments and environmental impact assessments and recommend preventative/corrective action where hazards exist.
- Tracks, monitors, and reports Jtec Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Other jobs and/or duties as directed by direct supervisor or other members of management.
Qualifications:
- Preferred but not required Associate in Science or Bachelor's of Science in related field.
- 1-3 years prior EHS or Safety Coordinator experience required.
- Experience in manufacturing is strongly desired.
- Experience and working knowledge of Federal/State regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
Working Conditions:
- Frequent exposure to noises that may be distracting or uncomfortable.
- Daily, frequent contact with others: face-to-face, phone, and email.
- Indoors, not environmentally controlled - metal fabrication and warehouse environment without a cooling system.
- Freedom to make decisions as directed by the Production Manager.
- Constant use of required personal protective equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as lifting, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Must be able to move about the assigned area and able to stoop, bend, and reach overhead.
- Must be able to position self to inspect products and equipment at ground level.
- Must be able to move products or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand and work on your feet for an entire shift.
- Must be able to work in a safety-sensitive role, fit for duty, and free of any adverse effects of drugs or alcohol, including prescribed or over-the-counter drugs or other substances which may alter job performance during working times.
