Our multi-disciplined team performs assessments of existing buildings to diagnose performance issues and identify water damage, which is often structural damage. Next, we prepare repair scopes and design documents to effectively restore buildings. Then, we provide bidding and pre-construction services, work closely with contractors, and perform contract administration services to guide owners through the repair process. We specialize in residential and commercial building envelope work ranging from apartments and condominiums to commercial and high-end residential.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Experienced Licensed Structural Engineer will work as an integral part of our building envelope consulting team, ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and performance of various projects. This role combines technical engineering, project management, and quality control responsibilities. As part of a collaborative team, this engineer will oversee and approve designs, conduct structural analyses, and provide insights on building envelope systems. The role requires placing an engineering stamp on critical documents to validate compliance with regulatory and structural best practices.

The ideal candidate will have experience specifically related to building facades, curtain walls, roofing systems, and cladding assemblies as well as disciplined knowledge of engineering requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Role and Responsibilities

Structural Engineering and Design :

  • Perform detailed structural analyses and engineering evaluations for building envelope systems, including waterproofing, insulation, air barriers, and cladding.
  • Review and approve structural calculations, designs, and modifications to ensure stability, safety, and adherence to applicable codes.
  • Provide expert insights into building envelope solutions to enhance structural performance, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

Quality Assurance and Approvals :

  • Apply professional engineering stamp on approved designs, drawings, and proposals to certify structural integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of project plans, proposals, and technical reports for accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Work closely with project managers and design team to resolve any structural or design concerns during the planning and implementation stages.
  • Project Management :

  • Oversee projects from inception through completion, ensuring project timelines, budgets, and client expectations are met.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to provide project guidance, address structural challenges, and ensure smooth project execution.
  • Manage project documentation, reporting, and communication with clients, ensuring transparency and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Building Envelope Expertise :

  • Apply specialized knowledge of building envelope systems in the design, evaluation, and inspection of building facades, roofs, and other envelope components.
  • Conduct field assessments, inspections, and forensic evaluations of existing building envelopes, identifying and diagnosing structural or performance issues.
  • Advise on retrofit and repair solutions for building envelope issues, providing expertise on sustainable and durable material selection.
  • Team Collaboration and Mentorship

  • Support and mentor junior engineers and technical staff, promoting professional development and knowledge-sharing within the team.
  • Stay current with advancements in structural engineering, building codes, and building envelope technology to continuously enhance project outcomes and team expertise.
  • Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; Master"s degree preferred.
  • Must be a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) with current registration in Washington State. UT, OR, and ID a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on building envelope systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing client relationships.
  • Proficient in structural analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, or similar).
  • Familiar with CAD, BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools, and other engineering software.
  • Strong understanding of building codes and standards (e.g., IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI) and building envelope best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with clients.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to overcoming project challenges.
  • Direct experience with forensic engineering, building envelope design, analysis, and inspections.
  • Ability to provide deposition, mediation, arbitration, and / or trial testimony if required.
  • Comfort with one-on-one client interactions and speaking to small audiences (virtual & in-person).
  • Work Environment

  • This position operates in a professional office setting, with the possibility of occasional remote work.
  • The role may require periodic travel to attend meetings, conferences, or events.
  • The employee may need to collaborate with other departments, external agencies, and vendors in both virtual and in-person settings.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to attend meetings at various offices, field, and construction sites.
  • Willingness and ability to perform observation and evaluation tasks in elevated and exposed conditions.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods as required to perform design, reporting, and other analysis duties.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to legally drive and safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to travel by car, plane, or other modes of transportation if necessary for business meetings or events.
