Position Summary:
As a mechanic for Jacam Catalyst, primary duties include performing diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results, and repairing or replacing engine parts, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components. Communicate effectively, expected to maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles and interact with drivers daily. Safely and responsibly maintain all equipment required by DOT and company polic.
Essential Functions:
- Must adhere to the US Department of Transportation regulations regarding the safe operation of the company vehicle.
- Running diagnostic tests on vehicles.
- Analyzing diagnostic test results.
- Replacing vehicle engine parts, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
- Checking vehicle lighting systems.
- Test driving vehicles to gauge performance.
- Performing preventative maintenance on company equipment.
- Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles.
- Adhering to an inspection procedure maintenance checklist.
- Maintaining a parts inventory.
- Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop.
- Ensure that all operations are in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations
- Represent the company in a professional manner.
- Engage effectively with OTR drivers to be a resource for compliance and maintenance items.
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Minimum of 2 years’ previous mechanic experience
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering helpful, not required
- Must possess a Class A CDL with Hazmat, Tanker and Airbrake endorsements
- Possess a current Medical Examiner’s Certification
Skills & Abilities:
- Computer Skills: Have basic computer skills including Microsoft word and Excel. Efficiently navigate a web browser, follow online instructions, type and use a mouse
- Customer Service Skills: Meet internal and external commitments, respond promptly to driver needs, and solicit driver feedback to improve service.
- Work Ethic: Be dependable, trustworthy, truthful, and credible in the workplace. Display a sincere desire to provide service or assistance, follow instructions, and take responsibility for own actions. Show a commitment to doing the best job possible
- Physical Abilities: Lift and carry 100 pounds in various packaging. Tip and move 55-gallon drums, weighing up to 600 pounds, with the use of a drum dolly.
Work Environment:
Employee could be faced with working in temperature extremes. Employee is often exposed to contaminants, such as diesel fuel, exhaust, or hazardous chemicals. Sometimes stand or lie in awkward positions to repair equipment. Occasionally must climb to high places to reach parts of equipment. Employee must be able to lift and carry 100 pounds, manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude necessary. Use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to: safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, gloves.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – safety glasses, goggles, etc
- Vision - Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, and Depth Perception
- Sense of Sound - 55 decibels, adult conversations
- Sense of Smell - Able to detect odors
