Shift: 7:00AM - 3:30PM ET (weekends as needed)
Position Goal
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the Laboratory Department. Accountable for the supervision of lab department personnel, responsible for managing supplies and inventory, development, review, and revision of policies and procedures, clinical laboratory quality control, assessments and improvements, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory bodies e.g., state federal, COLA, CLIA and TJC.
Position Responsibilities:
- Establish and update Laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Oversee quality control testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ensure accurate interpretation and reporting of test results.
- Perform, validate, and interpret, document and report laboratory test results.
- Assign proficiencies, understand and participate in all aspects of clinical laboratory testing; pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical.
- Anticipate and maintain required supplies for uninterrupted testing.
- Assist in training and mentoring of laboratory personnel and students.
- Monitor workflow, adjust job tasks as needed, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test, analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Review and release test results with regard to proper quality control guidelines.
- Uphold and enforce CLIA, HIPAA, TJC, OSHA and safety guidelines.
- Adhere to laboratorys quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and all maintenance performed.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all testing and corrective actions.
- Participate in any training, safety drills, and regulatory inspections.
- Manage inventory to avoid overuse of supplies.
- Participate in Proficiency Testing surveys as required.
- Assist in the training of department employees
- Assist in implementing Quality Assurance Programs and other Quality Control Improvement processes.
- Assist Lab Director in various projects as needed or as assigned.
- Able to serve as the Laboratory Technical Supervisor
Experience:
Required:
- Two years of clinical supervisory experience or experience as a lead technologist.
- Five years of bench generalist technologist experience (moderate to high complexity testing).
Education:
Required:
- Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science or
- Bachelors Degree in one of the Chemical, Physical, or Biological sciences, with completion of an accredited Medical Technology Internship or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credentialing evaluation from IERF.
Special Qualifications:
Required:
- MT/ MLS Certification (ASCP, AMT, or AAB) required.
- Must meet CLIA testing personnel requirements for Moderate and High Complexity Testing as outlined in 42 CFR 493.1423 and 493.1489.
- BLS certification
- Must have a valid drivers license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
