Job Description
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 am-5 pm, hours may vary
A shipping and receiving supervisor oversee the efficient and accurate flow of goods in and out of an organization. They lead the team to ensure accurate and optimal planning, scheduling, and shipping/receiving processes are adhered to.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervision and Leadership: Directs and leads team members involved in operations.
planning (order management), wave planning, dock management, inbound/outbound scheduling and shipping/receiving of finished goods and supplies.
- Process Management: Creates and executes processes for order planning, dock management, inbound/outbound material & finished goods scheduling and welcome shack.
- Team Leadership: Trains, schedules, and coaches the team, ensuring there are backups for each position.
- Record Keeping: Maintains accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments. Creates and maintains SOPs for each area and position.
- Planning: Determines most efficient dock flow, order flow, carrier inbound/outbound flow, assigns work, and develops/executes procedures.
- Safety Compliance: Ensures compliance with safety standards and company policies, including abiding by all food safety regulations.
- Problem-Solving: Addresses issues and resolves problems related to all aspects of the department.
- Communication: Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders and internal/external customers. Maintains frequent and open communication with all Operations Supervisors, Customer Service, Transportation, and Inventory.
- Continuous Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness in shipping, receiving, scheduling, dock management, and planning operations. Drive change and foster continuous improvement.
- Planning and Budgeting: Plan and manage all financial aspects, including awareness of necessary staffing levels and productivity to maintain a cost-effective operation.
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, High school diploma or GED required.
Required Experience: Minimum 5 years in warehouse and distribution management required.
Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
REQUIRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

- Computer Skills: Proficiency in using computer systems and software for all aspects of planning and goods movement with the distribution center.
- Knowledge of Shipping, Receiving, Planning, and Dock Management Procedures: Understanding of industry best practices and optimal processes.
- Experience: Previous experience in leadership within a distribution center (shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations) is required.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and move around for extended periods of time with the potential to lift and carry materials.
Additional Information
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing for up to 100% of the time, up to 12 hours per day and up to 6 days per week on concrete warehouse flooring. Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. frequently. Continuously bending and leaning around pallets and warehouse staging locations. Operating stand-up mechanical forklift, pallet jack, and stock picker for up to 12 hours a day. Neck dexterity: looking up during pallet pick up and put-away. Standing, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and turning, walking, and climbing stairs. Hand and finger dexterity. Continuous, fast-paced, repetitious motion of the hands, arms, shoulders, waist, and legs. The odor and contact of beef jerky, spices, and sauces.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. However, the vast amount of work is conducted in a climate-controlled office. Travel may be required.
