What are the responsibilities and job description for the Horse Identifier position at JACK Thistledown Racino?
Job Responsibilities:
The Horse Identifier is responsible for positively identifying all horses entered to race. The Horse Identifier is entrusted with the safeguarding of all foal registration papers on file in the Racing Office.
Specific Duties:
- Correctly identify horses by reading lip tattoos
- Identify physical traits and individual markings on a racehorse
- Safeguard foal registration papers
- Logging in/out foal papers
- Manage preference dates
- Alert trainers to upcoming coggins expiration dates
- Reflect wins of each horse on foal registration papers
- File, process, and/or produce various documents regarding horses, owners and trainers
Confidentiality Requirements:
The Horse Identifier handles, safeguards, and maintains records and documents that are often sensitive in nature and thus is required to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain a License from the Ohio State Racing Commission
- Must have basic knowledge of applicable Ohio Revised Code and Administrative Rules outlined in Chapter 3769
- Must have extensive experience working closely around racehorses
- Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must have strong organizational skills
- Must be team-oriented
- Must be able to work successfully with a variety of personality styles
- Must be able to perform various functions essential to racing operations
