VAN MONITOR/ SUBSTITUE VAN DRIVER
Status: Part-Time, Mon - Fri 1:30pm – 7:0pm

JOB SUMMARY:
As a Van monitor/substitute driver, you will work with the Van Driver, Front Desk Lead, Program Manager and Program Director to ensure a safe, fun, caring and nurturing environment for all participants and their families. A Van monitor / substitute driver shares responsibility with the van driver for the care and safety of students being transported by JJKF and fills in as the driver when a JJK Van driver is not available.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and/or safely transport child(ren) from designated pick-up locations and back to designated drop off locations.
- Provide students with constructive behavioral and disciplinary direction for safety, order, and respect for the rights and belongings of others.
- Maintain clean and orderly vans inside and out.
- Interact with staff, parents, and school personnel in an effective and professional manner.
- Maintain knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and policies related to this position.
- Handle issues in a tactful and professional manner while maintaining client or employees privacy.
- Lead programs, activities and services that prepare youth to Win in Life.
- Assist in the day-to day operations of the afterschool program.

- Contribute to a healthy and safe environment, ensuring everything is properly maintained.
- Supervise youth and ensure their overall safety.
- Take daily program attendance.
- Assist with arrival, check-in, and departure process.
- Assists in meal and snack distribution.
- Work as a team player.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- High School diploma/GED required.
- Valid Driver's License
- Experience working with children preferred in either a paid or volunteer capacity, including but not limited to mentoring, tutoring, coaching, and teaching.
- Communication skills - good written and oral communication skills and the ability to relate to the public and our youth.
- Decision making skills - good judgment, systemic thinking, problem solving, performance organization and time management. Identify common elements, themes and risks in situations and actions.
- Planning skills - monitoring, organizational planning, ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth and to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Relationship skills, strong customer service, strict confidentiality, ability to build relationships, use meaningful measurements to satisfy customer needs and be a positive team player.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Maintain emotional control under stress. Psychological factors can include dealing with children, dealing with life threatening emergencies as well as coping with screaming children.
- Ability to cope with ever-changing traffic environment, lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, carrying, crouching, kneeling, reaching, bending, and climbing.
- Conditions include working in inclement weather, heat, rain, cold, humidity, other outdoor weather elements, and exposure to possible injury due to traffic accidents. There is considerable exposure at times to high noise levels from both outside traffic as well as from passengers.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.
- Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously and handle tension and stress in a positive manner.
- Flexible schedule and willing to cover shifts due to call-offs when possible.
