SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Coordinator of Library Student Engagement leads the library’s efforts to create innovative services, tools, and events that appeal to the individual information needs of JC students, both in person and virtually.
Hours:Monday, Thursday, Friday 8:30a-5p
Tuesday, Wednesday 9:30-6p
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop projects & initiatives to engage both students & faculty with library resources and services, in person and online.
- Provide outreach to other campus departments, such as Student Life and Housing, to create engaging, student-centered library-related programming and events.
- Manage the Library of Things collection, including selecting and processing new items and maintaining existing items.
- Oversee the Makerspace, including scheduling activities, maintaining equipment, and supporting student engagement with creative tools and technology.
- Assist with archives-related tasks, such as organizing and preserving materials, digitization projects, and creating displays and programs.
- Train and assist in supervising library student workers, ensuring they understand policies and procedures related to outreach efforts, the Library of Things, and Makerspace operations.
- Assist with library technical systems, including Springshare LibApps Suite, EBSCO Discovery ServiceSirsiDynix Symphony & Workflows, and the library website.
- Manage and compile statistics for usage of Springshare tools, Library of Things, Makerspace activities, and other library resources.
- Assist with collection development and research support for students.
- Develop and implement interactive tutorials, videos, online resource guides, and other digital learning resources that support student needs.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate library services and tools into their syllabi and courses.
- Provide support to other library staff as needed.
- Support the college by serving on committees & helping with projects that intersect with the library.
- Responsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College’s beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the supervision of library student workers as needed.
CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
Internal: Coordinate and communicate within the College community to facilitate student enrollment. Frequent contact with Student Services Staff, faculty and other departments for the purposes of information sharing.
External: Make contact, as needed, with schools, businesses and other agencies, in addition to current and prospective students, to provide information about Jackson College.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum/Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS, MS, MSLS, etc.) from an American Library Association-accredited institution preferred

Minimum/Required Abilities and Experience
- At least two years of experience working in a library setting, preferably in an academic library.
- Experience with student engagement, outreach, or event coordination.
- Ability to manage and maintain specialized collections such as the Library of Things or Makerspace equipment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Adept at using Microsoft Office programs and willingness to learn new technologies.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with archives or special collections, including digitization or preservation preferred.
