JOB TITLE : Assistant District Attorney
DEPARTMENT : District Attorney's Office
JOB SUMMARY : The work of this position involves preparing cases for trial and presenting cases before the court.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
- Review Criminal Cases for trial.
- Prepare Criminal Cases for trial.
- Meet with other attorneys to prepare strategy or negotiate pleas.
- Present criminal cases before Superior Court Judge.
- Select Jury for criminal trial.
- Present guilty pleas and probation revocation before Superior Court.
- Write indictments and present them to the Grand Jury.
- Perform Legal Research.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is typically performed while sitting at a desk with intermittent standing, stooping, and walking. Work may be performed outdoors in inclement weather. Work is typically performed in an office or courtroom.
DISCRETIONARY AUTHORITY & JUDGMENT EXERCISED :
The Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions that require the use of judgment. Guidelines consist of standard operating procedures, department rules and regulations, county policies, Code of Professional Responsibility and Conduct, Rules of the Superior Court and Georgia State Law. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
SCOPE & IMPACT :
The purpose of this assignment is to prosecute defendants in criminal trials. Successful performance in this position helps to ensure the continued safety of the public. Complexity is added by complex legal issues that occur in the job. Contacts are typically for delivering a service, exchanging information, resolving problems, negotiating and settling disputes, explaining procedures, and justifying and defending actions.
