What are the responsibilities and job description for the Histotechnician II position at Jackson County Memorial Hospital?
Job Summary: Works under the Histotech Coordinator and the Pathologist. Consults with and keeps Coordinator and Pathologist informed of activities, needs, and problems. Complies with established standards and practices/procedures/policies. Assemble supplies and equipment and keeps work area clean. Prepares and keeps records and reports for the Pathology Department. Files, mails, and calls reports. Participates in all Pathology procedures.
Regulatory and Education Requirements:
- Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program, or an Associate Degree, or 60 semester hours college credit including 6 hours in Chemistry, 6 hours in Biology, and 1 year of acceptable experience under an ASCP Pathologist and HT (ASCP) or HLT (ASCP) is preferred with a minimum of Registry eligible.
Experience:
- Prefer at least 3 years previous experience as a Histotechnician (ASCP) or Histotechnician eligible. Previous work history that demonstrates attendance and punctuality are essential.
Skills:
- Typing at no less than 40 words per minute.
- Strong word processing and computers skills.
- Excellent clerical and secretarial skills.
- Medical terminology required.
