The Transport Officer is responsible for escorting inmates to and from Court, jail/detention facilities or other jurisdictions. This position ensures the security and proper care of inmates when outside the secure facility.Responsible for their own work. Under the direct supervision of the Jail Administrator.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provides Transportation to Inmates, Juveniles, Mentally Ill Persons and Others.Transports inmates to and from correctional facilities for required court appearances and commitment for prison sentences.Transports inmates from jail to medical, dental and all other necessary appointments.Transports juveniles to and from secure and non-secure facilities and court.Transports individuals to and from hospitals for court appearances or placement who are under civil commitment.Maintains Control and Custody of Inmates and Others during Transport.Ensures the proper and safe application of restraint devices (handcuffs, leg irons, belts, leg brace, etc.).Provides transport and security duty to inmates that have to go to the hospital on an unscheduled basis.Provides hospital security for inmates admitted as patients.Maintains Records and Information Regarding Transports.Ensures the proper paperwork is on file to authorize transports.Verifies with courts and other facilities the location of requested individuals and the date and time of hearings or appointments.Records information regarding transports on required forms.Delivers certified warrants and other paperwork to courts as needed.Maintains Transportation Vehicles. Maintains and arranges for service, upkeep and repair of vehicles in the transport fleet. Performs limited housekeeping duties to maintain the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the transport vehicle to keep it free of any debris.Takes custody of persons that are remanded to custody by order of the Court. Works and cooperates with the jail staff to safely supervise inmate movement from the jail to courts.Assists Inmates with Court Paperwork.Provides inmates with appropriate forms prior to court appearance and answers questions related to those forms.Helps individuals to understand court orders, bail conditions, and other judicial orders.Interacts Positively with Internal and External Customers. Communicates and interacts effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and customers.Assists law enforcement officers, bailiffs, and jail staff in their duties, as directed by supervisors.Performs the Physical and Mental Demands of the Position.Performs duties as dictated by the needs of the operation.Assists and acts in the event of emergencies responding appropriately or as directed.Subdues inmates during altercations or escapes, defends self and others.Attends Work During Scheduled Hours.Works the hours and/or shifts assigned and begin and end work on time.Be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance including, and not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines.Assist with Courtroom Security. Monitors courtroom activity when requested by bailiff or judge.Attends In-Service Training Sessions as Assigned.
