What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard - Temporary, Part-Time position at Jackson County, NC?
Position Overview
Ensure the safety of patrons at the municipal swimming pool by preventing and responding to emergencies through the application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
Assigned Lifeguard shifts are set at 5 - 5.5 hours per day between the hours of
6 am - 9 pm Monday - Friday
8 am - 6 pm Saturday - Sunday
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility, act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patronsin the event of an emergency.
- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Enforce rules fairly and politely.
- Exhibit patience and enthusiasm while conducting productive lessons.
- Communicate professionally with patrons or parents of students.
- Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
- Check and secure gates and doors at closing times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Jackson County Parks and Recreation staff.
Education and Experience
Minimum of 16 years of age, lifeguard and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current life guarding techniques and procedures related to performing various rescues to swimmers during emergency situations.
- Knowledge of first aid procedures common in swimming pool operations.
- Skill in understanding and responding to customer needs.
- Skill in administering first aid and CPR.
- Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations making proper judgments as to the correct course of action.
- Ability to perform general lifeguard duties and pool maintenance tasks.
- Ability to rescue swimmers in danger of drowning regardless of the situation.
