Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to support Environmental Health clerical operations and provide supervision of all Environmental Health clerical employees. Grade 19
Work Schedule: Forty (40) hours per week, five (5), eight (8)-hour workdays, Monday through Friday from 8 am – 5 pm with one (1) hour for lunch. The person in this position may occasionally work nights and weekends when required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision:
- Supervision of all Environmental Health clerical employees.
- Responsible for assisting in workflow organization of activities for all Environmental Health clerical employees.
- Supports Environmental Health Director in training initiatives, and offers guidance to Environmental Health clerical employees for general, day-to-day activities.
- Assists in prioritizing daily work operations assigned to EH clerical employees.
- Collaborates with, and makes recommendations to Environmental Health Director regarding EH clerical employees’ job duties, performance, and expectations.
- Refers to Environmental Health Director regarding disciplinary problems; may offer suggestions, guidance, and/or support, as needed.
- Assist in interviewing of new clerical employees for Environmental Health.
- Responsible for maintaining an excellent customer service reputation with the community for the department, by stressing the importance of being professional and helpful with the public.
- Responsible for assisting in coordination of coverage for employees, due to employee changes and/or schedules.
- Supports and performs all duties related to Environmental Health clerical employees, as needed
- Responsible for adhering to record retention of all documents set by the State.
- May assist with clerical duties related to Animal Shelter when necessary, due to employee changes and/or schedules.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor, Health Director, or Deputy Health Director
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills, and abilities gained through at least (3) three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administrative program with (1) one year of experience as described above; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver License.
