Job Description Summary:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, the Library Building Coordinator oversees Carnegie building staff, ensures a safe and welcoming environment, and serves as a liaison between the building and the rest of the district. Key responsibilities include managing daily operations, coordinating staff assignments, de-escalating incidents, and ensuring high-quality customer service. This role also involves maintaining library resources and equipment to support community needs.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains order in the library and enforces the code of conduct for patrons.
- Leads and evaluates building staff using strengths-based and values-driven leadership. Trains, directs, and supports staff in setting goals and professional development.
- Collaborates with the JDL District Leadership and Branch Manager teams to align library services with community needs.
- Assesses community demographics, needs, and interests to help develop service goals and programming.
- Communicates and enforces library policies and procedures, ensuring all staff remain informed of updates, regulations, and union contracts.
- Prepares reports on library usage, programming, and staffing schedules to support strategic decision-making.
- Acts as the primary liaison with community partners, fostering relationships and addressing library service challenges.
- Assists in developing and implementing district-wide outreach initiatives.
- Plans and promotes library services through events, group presentations, and community outreach.
- Collaborates with IT and Administration to assess and recommend new library technology for district-wide implementation.
- Keeps staff informed of emerging trends in library services and community issues affecting the library.
- Oversee the maintenance and development of the library collection, working closely with Collection Services to align materials with community needs.
- Monitors and manages programming and supply budgets for the Carnegie building.

Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent experience in management, customer service, and crisis management.
- 3–5 years of recent experience in public library services.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, library personnel, outside agencies, and the public.
- Proven leadership abilities, including knowledge of supervisory principles, delegation, and team development.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, using initiative and independent judgment to prioritize tasks and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Strong understanding of customer service standards and best practices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of public library operations, including current and emerging trends.
- Familiarity with library collections, digital resources, and basic reference materials.
- Commitment to intellectual freedom and the ability to apply its principles in library services.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diplomatically and tactfully with employees and community members.
- Strong analytical skills to research, evaluate, and summarize information related to services, programs, and trends.
- Proficiency in technology, including personal computers, software, online resources, personal devices, automated library systems, and commonly used office equipment.
