Summary
Electroencephalograph Technician operate electronic equipment which graphically records electrical impulses generated in the brain to obtain data for evaluation of certain brain disorders.
Responsibilities
- Performs EEGs on in/out patients according to the American Electroencephalographic Society's Guidelines in EEG/Minimum Technical Standards for: - Performing Clinical EEG, - Pediatric EEG - EEG Recording of Suspected Cerebral Death.
- Performs EEG in monitoring of surgical procedures and direct electroencephalography during epilepsy surgery.
- Obtains tracings from chronically implanted electrodes.
- Summarizes the patient's neurologic status and clinical history from the chart, patient, or other knowledgeable persons.
- Explains the recording procedure, using a style appropriate to the age and needs of the patient and family.
- Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on age groups, patient specific needs, hx, etc.
- Provides appropriate patient care for age groups served and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient emergency situations.
- Keeps room and equipment in clean operating condition.
- Performs maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment and reports the need for major repairs.
- Prepares EEG tracings with complete information about montages, filters, sensitivity, etc. and paperwork for interpretation by physicians.
- Processes paperwork and computer functions to facilitate recordkeeping and billing.
- Orders and distributes laboratory supplies.
- Retrieves previous EEG tracings and/or reports for reference.
- Schedules in/outpatients when necessary.
- Prepares equipment for sterilization.
- Assists supervisor in the technical training of students in affiliated EEG technology programs, residents and visiting personnel as needed.
- Accepts "on-call" duties when assigned.
- Participates in professional association activities, meetings, seminars and in-services, keeping abreast of new developments in EEG technology.
- Performs other related work as required to assure efficiency of the Department.
- Assists with fielding phones, filing and other front office functions as needed. Is competent in the following, as appropriate to the age of the patients served: - the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patients needs; - a knowledge of patient growth and development.

Experience
- Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
- High School diploma is required.

Credentials
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
