Summary
The Hospital Flow Coordinator works with Nurse Managers, Associate Nurse Managers, and Directors to ensure that all patient flow through the organization with ease resulting in decreased ED and ICU boarding. Assists with management of patient flow tracking systems, staffing, and sitter and physician assignment. Facilitates patient flow and decreases pull times and patient delays assisting with throughput of ICU, OR, Recovery, Resus, Procedural areas, ED, Med/Surg, direct admits, and internal transfers.
Responsibilities
- Views hospital bed status at a glance, drilling down to the nursing unit level, thus ensuring patients are admitted to the correct department from the outset, improving patient care with faster and safer outcomes.
- Lead the development, implementation and continual improvement of patient flow.
- Ascertain the number of predicted demand, including pre-booked in-patients and unscheduled patients, resulting in effective patient throughput.
- Utilize available software to predict bed availability, including planned and confirmed discharges, making it easier to identify and predict pressures points beforehand allowing for corrective action.
- Fast identification of delayed discharges, interfacing with the AIC to address the cause of delays before demand exceeds availability.
- Focus on targeted strategic movements to ensure rapid flow.
- Acts as a liaison between and with physicians, patient/family, hospital staff and patient care areas, to promote efficient patient flow utilizing effective and professional communication. Tracks and trends barriers to patient flow; makes recommendations and develops action plans to improve process and systems.

Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience. Three (3) years of hospital Flow Management experience is preferred.
Preferred Experience
- At least two to three years' experience as hospital inpatient registered nurse.
- Charge nurse / Associate nurse manager experience is a plus.
Education
Associate's degree in related field is required.Employees hired after 12/1/2020, Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
Credentials
Valid State of Florida RN license is required.
