What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nature Mapping Volunteer position at Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation?
Summary Description
Nature Mapping Jackson Hole (NMJH) collects data through casual observations. There is
no set routine, only basic wildlife watching. This is very valuable data for Jackson Hole
Wildlife Foundation along with many of our partners including Wyoming Game & Fish.
Volunteers can make casual observations while hiking, biking, camping, boating, driving,
and other daily activities. This is a great opportunity to engage citizens in long-term wildlife
data collection.
Time Commitment
Volunteers can Nature Map at their convenience, so the timing is based upon the
volunteer’s schedule. The beauty of Nature Mapping is that it can be done anytime and on
any day.
Progression
Nature Mapping Jackson Hole is a general volunteer position without a hierarchy of service.
However, there are opportunities for continuing education through different classes,
presentations, workshops, and more!
Job Duties
Accurately record wildlife sightings within at least a week of the sighting
Provide photos for wildlife verification if necessary
Enter data into the NMJH app or website as directed
Qualification and Skills
Open to anyone who loves to observe wildlife
Patience while observing wildlife to note behavior(s)
Must attend a NMJH training
Must have a working electronic device (phone, tablet, computer, etc.) or access to a
computer to input data
Expectations
Nature Mappers should enter their observations within a week of a sighting
Communicate with the NMJH Program Coordinator about unusual sightings ASAP
