Job Summary: Provides indirect patient care in the office/clinic setting. Greets and registers patients. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Performs clerical duties. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, office/clinic staff and the medical staff. Participates in performance improvement activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MEDICAL OFFICE RECEPTIONIST:
· Assist patients signing in for appointments
· Obtain new patient information, including copy of insurance cards, and enter them in correctly into the EMR Allscripts
· Update records annually and ensure HIPAA forms are current
· Complete Follow My Health Registration
· Assist patients presenting to the window for miscellaneous reasons
· Help notify nurses / assistants of patient’s arrival, as possible
· Check-out patients after appointment as well as scheduling a follow-up appointment
· Collect co-pays and deductibles at the time of service.
· Post mail / insurance payments
· Manage and balance cash drawer twice daily
· Scan appropriate documents into the EMR and maintain the fax server daily
· Process referrals timely, documenting call attempts and appointments made. Scan referral forms into the patient chart as well as inform referring provider of appointment made
· Assist pharmaceutical representatives and schedule lunches
· Print provider’s daily schedule as well as preparing clip boards for upcoming appointments
· Obtain written authorization from patients to assist in obtaining records from other providers and facilities as needed and allowed
· Answer phone and check messages
· Any other duties or tasks assigned by office manager or medical director
QUALIFICAITONS OF THE MEDICAL OFFICE RECEPTIONIST:
- High School diploma preferred
- Medical reception experience preferred
- Insurance and billing experience preferred
- Basic computer knowledge
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service skills
