Responsibilities of an LPN or Medical Assistant:
- Room patients, including vital signs
- Assist patients in and out of clinic, as needed
- Assist patients in and out of clinic, as needed
- Chaperone providers for patient examination, as needed
- Keep patient rooms clean and stocked with supplies
- Assist providers when doing procedures
- Collect information over phone from patients and family and relay message to provider
- Administer injections such as B12, vaccinations, hormones, allergy shots
- Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and quality control of patient care equipment
- Perform EKGs and nebulizer treatments, as needed
- Perform fingerstick glucose and U/A
- Perform fecal occult blood tests, periodically
- Schedule appointments, as needed
- Schedule imaging studies
- Refer patients to other providers for specialty care or procedures
- Obtain pre-authorizations from insurance companies as necessary
- Call pharmacies with refills of prescriptions as authorized by provider
- Assist with appropriate storage of drugs and biologicals
- Any other duties or tasks assigned by office manager or physician
- Adheres to and practices the standards of performance outlines in the Standards of Performance handbook
- Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s/department’s Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or, upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Office or hospital hotline.
Requirements of an LPN or Medical Assistant
- Current State of Florida LPN license or Medical Assistant certificate
- Current BLS certification for healthcare providers
- Basic computer knowledge
