Position: Assistant Middle School Principal
Reports to: Building Principal
Employment Status: Regular/Full-time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Description: Assist the building principal in the general administration of the middle school; oversee all disciplinary procedures and actions; administer the school in the absence of the
middle school principal; monitor and enforce rules concerning attendance; ensure the
school is safe for all students

Essential Functions:
• Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
• Has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
• Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
• Ensure safety of students
• Assist the Building Principal in the general administration of the middle school
• Administer the school in the absence of the middle school principal
• Monitor and enforce rules concerning attendance
• Oversee all disciplinary procedures and actions and record-keeping
• Serve with parent, faculty and student groups
• Attend special events, functions and athletic events
• Assist in the supervision of the maintenance of accurate student records
• Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., staff personnel information, student files
• Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
• Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
• Attend meetings and in-services as required
• Produce computer generated reports from the student database
• Assist with truancy prevention
• Supervise school busses and students both on and off campus
• Work with PATT to promote their positive contributions to school programs
• Assist with school safety program
• Cover classes when needed
• Assist teachers with difficult behavior problems and school discipline in general
• Handle emergency problems as they arise
• Give administrative assistance in areas such as faculty meetings, activity programs, athletics, after school events, etc.
• Develop a continuous school improvement plan including processes, procedures and strategies to address performance indicators on the Ohio Graduation Test
• Oversee and implement effectively the education management information program for the school (EMIS)
• Support the instructional delivery by maintaining good communication, by observing both formally and informally, and by interactivity with teachers on a regular basis on instructional issues
• Develop procedures, processes, and strategies to provide a learning climate that fosters respect and safety
• Plan/schedule student assemblies, field trips, parent meetings, meetings with juvenile authorities, etc.
• Assist the Building Principal with scheduling
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in the preparation and distribution of all student and teacher handbooks
• Assist in the improvement and/or adjustment of the school program
• Assist in the supervision and evaluation of all school personnel
• Assist in the preparation and supervision of fire and tornado drills and other emergency preparedness programs
• Assist in the counseling of students with failing grades
• Arrange conferences with parents, teachers and students regarding grades
• Assist the principal with the school’s testing program including the state proficiency tests
• Contribute articles to the school newsletter
• Serve as a role model for students
• Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent
• Less than five years related experience
• Appropriate state of Ohio certification/license
• Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
