The Coordinator of Student Leadership will assist in the management of student organizations and will support the regular operations and processes for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), including managing operations and developing programs and resources for student organization leaders, enhancing the onboarding experience for new student organizations, and assist in other leadership development programming for the department.
Examples of Duties
- Serve as the primary advisor for the BLUE Streak mentoring group and co-advisor to the Student Government Association.
- Assist in the management of student organizations and support the regular operations and processes for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), including managing operations, developing programs and resources for student organization leaders, enhancing the onboarding experience for new student organizations, and assisting in other leadership development programming for the department.
- Design, develop, and oversee the implementation of appropriate marketing strategies and initiatives directed to student activities.
- Assist with Welcome Week Leaders, coordinate the recruitment, selection, training, and development of Welcome Week Leaders.
- Work collaboratively with university departments and external partners to design, plan, and execute activities for the fall and spring Welcome Week.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in higher education, student activity-related programming, orientation services, or other related fields is strongly preferred. Graduate experiences are welcome as well.
- Demonstrates excellent organizational abilities, written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and social media skills.
- Ability to follow all federal, state, university, and departmental budget procedures.
- Ability to plan, oversee, coordinate, review, and evaluate assigned programs, events, and activities.
- Ability to lead and advise student leaders to include supporting and encouraging them in organizing, planning, and prioritizing their tasks and responsibilities.
- Basic principles and practices of developing and designing flyers, informational pamphlets, and other documents.
- Organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
- Operate modern office equipment, including computer equipment and specialized software applications programs.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
- Understand the scope of authority in making independent decisions.
- Review situations accurately and determine the appropriate course of action using judgment according to established policies and procedures.
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to assess student resource needs through a variety of means, including usage monitoring/tracking, direct questioning, feedback requests, and a survey.
- Ability to advise and support.
- Ability to utilize skill sets, educational and theoretical knowledge to implement best leadership practices.
- Ability to advise and support students utilizing trends and practices within the field of higher education.
- Ability to foster working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
