Description
The Department of Institutional Advancement, Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition at Jackson State University, is accepting applications for its Prevention Coordinator position.
Examples of Duties
Support college student groups on campus, including athletic teams that engage in activities to educate college students, including activities to reduce negative attitudes about behavioral health disorders and to promote mental health.
Collect data on the number of individuals who have received training in prevention or mental health promotion.
Collect data on the number of people receiving evidence-based mental health-related services.
Collect data on the number of individuals exposed to mental health awareness messages.
Train students, faculty, and staff to identify, respond effectively, and make appropriate referrals for students experiencing mental and substance use.
Educate and disseminate informational materials to college students, families, faculty, and staff to increase awareness about suicide, suicide prevention, mental health promotion, substance misuse prevention, mental and substance use disorders, and promote resiliency, distress, crisis, or at-risk of suicide.
Training should be evidence-based.
Typical Qualifications
One to three (1-3) years of experience implementing, preferably in a community-based organization (CBO).
Experience and knowledge of working with community-based organizations.
Demonstrated experience working with youth and young adults.
Excellent communication and presentation skills required.
Must possess organizational management skills.
Ability to travel locally is required.
Able to work within a team structure, while independently completing necessary tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to multitask, manage time, and meet deadlines.
Ability to make presentations to audiences of various cultures, orientations, sizes, education, and experience.
