Job Overview
The Jacksonville Daily Record is seeking a journalist to drive the visual presentation of its news. We are a weekly publication in print and daily online at JaxDailyRecord.com, focusing on business, development and the legal community in Northeast Florida. The Daily Record has won numerous awards over the years for its reporting and design, including first place for Overall Graphic Design in the 2024 Florida Press Association Weekly Newspaper Contest. We are seeking a team member to keep that tradition going.
Responsibilities
- Design the Daily Record, typically a 16-24 page weekly newspaper.
- Edit photos and create visuals, maps, charts and other design elements for print.
- Write headlines, captions and display type as needed.
- Create visuals for JaxDailyRecord.com. This would include illustrations, maps and extracting images from various documents and other sources.
- Look for ways to improve the current design of the Daily Record in print and online.
- Take part in story planning.
- The Daily Record staff is flexible. We all quickly pitch in to do whatever is needed. This can include taking photos, posting stories to the web, contributing to social media and editing and writing stories
Qualifications
- The Daily Record uses Adobe Creative Cloud and an InDesign-InCopy workflow.
- Strong skills in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Knowledge of AP style
