What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pet Help Center Counselor position at Jacksonville Humane Society?
Are you searching for a position where you can make a difference in the lives of the community and their pets? Are you a problem-solver who values teamwork, and finds joy in helping others? Then our Pet Help Center Counselor position might be the perfect role for you!
(NOTE: Please refer to the open Adoption Counselor position if you are interested in helping find loving families for adopters). Unlike Adoption Counselors who help find homes for shelter pets, our Pet Help Center Counselors have the opportunity to engage with members of our community to help reunite lost pets, provide a safe and non-judgmental approach to helping current owners hold onto their pets, and perform other lifesaving work.
This position isn’t for everyone. It can be loud, messy, and sometimes stressful. But if making a significant difference in the lives of your community and animals is something you’re passionate about, this might be the most fulfilling job you’ve ever had!
Apply below to be a part of our mission to provide care, comfort and compassion to animals in need while engaging the hearts, hands and minds of our community.
A Day in the Life of a Pet Help Center Counselor:
Our PHC Counselors are the heart of animal retention, helping keep families stay together, reuniting lost pets, and strengthening the human/animal bond by offering resources they may need in order to do so. A normal day consists of a mix of in person, over the phone, and email counselling regarding stray cats/dogs/kittens as well as helping connect community members to solutions for problems with keeping their pet. An ideal candidate for this position demonstrates strong customer service skills, considers themselves a solutions-based problem-solver, and demonstrates a passion for learning.
As a Pet Help Center Counselor, you will have the opportunity to partner closely with other departments to assist with shelter intake, learning and developing several skills along the way.
Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week) or Part-Time (28 hours/week). Weekends required.
Salary: $15/Hour (Non-Exempt)
