Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute is in search of an Authorization Specialist to work full-time at the San Marco JOI office located in San Marco.
The Authorization Specialist obtains authorization for injectable medications (viscosupplement products) for patients through their insurance plan. Orders durable medical equipment (DME) for surgical patients. Works collaboratively with other staff to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services to all patients and clients.
Schedule: Full-time/40 hours/week; Monday - Friday, 8:30a-5p
Location: 1325 San Marco Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for monitoring physician schedules for surgical patients requiring DME.
- Responsible for ordering medical equipment from appropriate supplier for delivery to patient’s home prior to their surgery.
- Responsible for obtaining orders from clinics for injectable (viscosupplement) products.
- Responsible for providing appropriate documentation, forms, patient information etc to insurance companies for authorization
Position Requirements
- Previous medical office experience preferred.
- Experience dealing with insurance companies, verification processes, and authorizations a plus.
- Strong grammar, punctuation, and syntax skills needed.
- High school or GED.
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Effective computer skills.
- Familiarity with HIPPA and OSHA guidelines/regulations.
- Ability work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm (schedules may vary based on clinic’s needs).
Working Conditions
Fast paced medical office environment. Occasional overtime may be required.
Physical Demands
Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and office equipment, and to write legibly. Vision sufficient to read standard text and data on computer screens and paper forms. Ability to speak clearly and with the volume required to carry on clear conversations in person and over the phone. Hearing sufficient to carry on clear conversations in person and over the phone.
