Quality Assurance Mechanical Inspector Aerospace Machine Shop
Our firm is well-established, growing and we supply the Defense and Aerospace industries with close tolerance precision machined parts. Parts, made from aircraft grades of heat-treated metals.
We are seeking a hands-on Quality Assurance Mechanical Inspector to join our Quality team. We are also willing to train someone who has worked as a Machinist in the past and wants to move into the Quality related career. This is a great opportunity to make that move or to expand your past experience in QA.
The full-time permanent position is a multi-role position requiring a wide range of duties and skills and the successful candidate will have a balanced mix of skills: effective communication skills, basic computer skills, email skills, hands on mechanical inspection experience, some CMM exposure, gage calibration, reviewing vendor processing certs, etc...
This position performs receiving inspection, in process, final product mechanical inspection and will create AS9102 quality inspection reports. Check parts physical dimensions and also check paperwork and processing certifications from suppliers and vendors and customer specifications, mechanical drawings...
Quality Inspector Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Work closely and communicate effectively with the Quality Manager to achieve product quality and production goals.
- Assist and perform with daily mechanical parts inspection functions: perform in-process, create the first article AS9102 reports, and final inspection of precision machined parts performed by the quality team staff.
- Participate if needed in daily departmental meetings.
- Experience using inspection hand tools, such as mics, indicators, height gages, thread gages, calipers, surface plate inspection techniques, etc.
- CMM parts inspection experience desired.
PCDMIS experience is desired.
- Ability to read and interpret GD&T ANSI Y14.5 engineering drawings
- Review material and processing certifications for compliance to customer and industry Aerospace standards and review supplier certs to determine if in accordance with planning and customer specifications.
- Complete AS9102 First Article dimensional inspection reports.
- Perform daily in process dimensional inspection of machined parts and final inspection to support our machine shop.
- Dimensionally inspect precision machined parts using mics, surface plate inspection techniques, CMM tools, optical comparator, thread and plug gages.
- Basic Shop math, trig, knowledge required.
- Inspect materials for size, condition, conformance to specifications.
- Complete reports, logs, scan paperwork, file online, email.
- Support the Quality Manger or Supervisor as directed.
Requirements:
- 5 years prior QA hands on mechanical inspection experience, or prior machine shop machinist experience will suffice.
- Experience using inspection hand tools, such as mics, indicators, height gages, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret GD&T ANSI Y14.5 engineering drawings
- Shop math, trig, knowledge required
- Computer skills, such as email use, MS Word, Excel creation, scanning, PDF file saving,
- US Citizenship required or equivalent for our US Govt contracts.
- Effective communications and skills: must be able to effectively speak, write emails and telephone communications with the suppliers and customers.
- Must be fluent in English and able to communicate effectively as above. Bilingual Spanish, or Vietnamese is helpful too.
- Attention to detail, ability to read, write. Cognitive ability to perform the job with a minimum of errors or omissions.
- Able to sit, stand, walk 8-10 hours a day. Lift and move machined parts weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical exam.
Benefits
This is a full-time position in our clean air-conditioned facility.
Monday through Thursday, Four Tens, First shift. Some Overtime is possible. Actual workdays and shift times can be negotiated and subject to change.
