THE ORGANIZATION:
Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement is the largest independent youth development not-for-profit organization in western Queens. In addition to operating a diverse portfolio of programs, we run evening teen centers, college readiness programs, and youth employment programs. Fusing arts and culture with the SEL framework is a cornerstone of our youth development approach.
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking an Assistant Director who will contribute to the overall planning and operation of the Program, aligned with the mission, goals, and policies of Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement. In this position, you will offer guidance, training, and encouragement to on-site staff and volunteers, ensuring a safe and structured center. While experience in DYCD is preferred, relevant experience in youth development is also acceptable.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with staff to meet objectives/goals and maintain smooth programmatic operations.
- Oversee program staff and services in alignment with goals and policies.
- Ensure compliance with Riis Settlement Agency policies.
- Prepare and organize monthly program reports.
- Understand and communicate contract requirements to staff.
- Conduct performance assessments and appraisals for direct reports.
- Handle critical incidents; liaising with stakeholders when necessary.
- Train, supervise, and assess Group Leaders.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to guarantee satisfactory service delivery and quality.
- Attend agency meetings as needed.
- In the absence of the Program Director effectively oversee programs and operations.
- Aid in analyzing program and participant demographic data to enhance program effectiveness.
- Meet or exceed all DYCD/Advantage contract requirements, including data and work scope entries.
- Openness and enthusiasm for coaching staff and offering guidance on lesson planning.
- Additional related duties as instructed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Conduct meetings with staff, volunteers, interns, program members, parents, and community residents as needed.
- Collaborate with community-based organizations for program enhancement.
- Meet required New York State School-Age Child Care (SACC) training hours.
Qualifications
STATEMENT OF SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education preferred; high school diploma/GED with 2 years supervisory experience is acceptable.
- School-Age Child Care (SACC) license/SAAC Credential Qualification a plus.
- Minimum 1-year supervisory experience, preferably in youth services.
- Strong youth development program planning and administration skills.
- Effective leadership, conflict resolution, and delegation skills.
- Excellent oral/written communication for diverse audiences.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google apps.
Requirement:
- Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
