JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Community Coordinator to support our community engagement initiatives in partnership with the Mayor’s Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety (MAP). The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of duty, be reliable, and possess excellent organizational skills. This role involves planning, executing, and evaluating community programs and events while providing essential support to staff and ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. The coordinator will facilitate collaboration among residents, community partners, and city agencies to address safety and well-being concerns within the Queensbridge House community.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of community events and programs, ensuring all aspects are managed effectively.
- Collaborate with support staff to coordinate logistics for events, such as venue selection, catering, and transportation.
- Maintain accurate records of community engagement activities, participant feedback, and event outcomes.
- Support with facilitation communication between community members, stakeholders, support staff, and team members to ensure alignment and clarity.
- Support implement processes to improve community engagement and participation rates.
- Support the creation of promotional materials, including newsletters, flyers, and social media posts to inform and engage community members.
- Co-facilitate and co-organize, with MAP Initiative Managers, city agency, and community partner meetings, and represent resident concerns and proposed solutions.
- Champion ongoing community outreach and communications to raise awareness of residents’ priorities.
- Support resident voice and resident advocacy for policy change by defining challenges and identifying opportunities to practice or voice solutions.
- Support the recruitment of youth council members.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing place-keeping activities, community events/meetings, and direct action activities to address and advocate for community needs and concerns.
- Support and evaluate community programs, collecting data and feedback to provide insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in managing event details and providing on-site support during community activities.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support in the collection, input, and processing of all necessary documents for resident and volunteer stipends by completing and maintaining stipend agreements, stipend logs, and tracking attendance.
- Attend in-person, teleconference, virtual meetings, and community events, including; precinct council meetings, community board meetings, and Tenant Association meetings.
STATEMENT OF SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Social Sciences, Event Management, or a related field (preferred but not required)
- Demonstrated success in community organizing, grassroots/neighborhood advocacy, and lobbying campaigns.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional analytical, written, and oral communication, presentation, and writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, and familiarity with social media platforms.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and foster collaboration.
- Previous experience in community engagement, event planning, or a related field is a plus.
- Sound ability to work with diverse communities in an empathetic, comfortable, and non-judgmental manner.
- Knowledge and familiarity in and around assigned site locations.
- Professional experience engaging multiple public housing communities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work some weekends and evenings.
