Description
TITLE: Accounting Clerk
STATUS: Part-time, Approximately 20 to 30 hours per week
LOCATION: Hybrid: Initially on-site shifting to a hybrid on-site/remote structure (minimum 1 day/week)
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance
DEPARTMENT: Business Office
WORKS WITH: Finance team, Development staff, Human Resources, Program Managers, Vendors, and Auditors
COMPENSATION: $17-20/hr
BENEFITS: (SUMMER ONLY): Three meals a day; free access to classes, performances, talks, and studio space usage.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to handle essential financial functions, including processing transactions, reconciling accounts, tracking grants and donations, and preparing timely financial reports. You will play a vital role in maintaining accurate and compliant financial records while collaborating closely with the Finance team and other departments to ensure financial transparency. This role supports an annual operating budget of $12–$15 million and a variable capital budget ranging from $1–$10 million.

In the short term, you will focus on providing consistent bookkeeping practices, ensuring smooth monthly reconciliations, and supporting the organization’s daily financial operations. Over time, you will refine processes, strengthen internal controls, enhance reporting capabilities, and provide reliable financial data to guide strategic decision-making.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable:

Process vendor invoices and payment requests promptly.

Record Income Transactions: donations, grants, ticket sales, community events, and school tuition.

Process deposits of cash receipts

Documentation & Records Maintenance:

Organize and maintain electronic and physical financial records for easy retrieval and audit readiness using Google Workspace.

Keep detailed documentation for record-keeping backup, reporting, and compliance.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace tools.

Experience in a business accounting environment.

Proficiency in math and/or experience in accounting or similar administrative tasks

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Computer usage
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

Experience working in a nonprofit or performing arts organization.

Previous accounts payable experience preferred

Familiarity with Accounting software (e.g., AccountingWare, QuickBooks, MIP, or similar)

Familiarity with nonprofit accounting principles, including fund accounting and FASB requirements.
