Description

TITLE: Festival Electrician
STATUS: Seasonal
Full-Time, On-site:  May 20, 2025 - August 28, 2025
START: May 20, 2025
END: August 28, 2025
ARRIVAL: May 19, 2025
DEPARTURE: August 29, 2025
COMPENSATION: $20.50-$23.58; Overtime (time and a half) after 48 hrs
Room and board, free access to performances, classes, talks, studios
HOURS: May 20 - May 31, 2025: (5) Day work week averaging 40 hrs
June 2 - August 28, 2025: (6) Day work week averaging 54 hrs
Hours will vary during The Festival depending on weekly schedules and all efforts will be made to provide 48 hours a week.

The Jacob’s Pillow Production Department seeks an electrician to join its seasonal staff for the 2025 Summer Festival. The Festival Electrician reports to the Lighting Supervisor and works closely and collaboratively with them to support all activity during The Festival. During the pre-season they assist the Events Production Manager to plan and prepare for special events on campus and off. They will also assist in the installation of the lighting systems in the Ted Shawn Theatre (TST) and Doris Duke Theatre (DDT) as well as in the support spaces on campus. During The Festival the Festival Electrician’s primary responsibility is to assist the Lighting Supervisor in the support of the electricians during their load-ins, change overs and technical rehearsals. They take the lead in the implementation and operation of lighting systems for special events and other campus activity, and will work with the Henry J Lier (HJL), School at Jacob’s Pillow, and Events Production Managers to support additional electrical power needs The Festival Electrician also assists the Lighting Supervisor with the organization and daily maintenance of the campus’ lighting infrastructure and equipment.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and accessible work environment.
  • Actively participate in the opening and closing of all of the Festival's performance spaces, studios, exhibition spaces, and temporary tents.
  • Actively participate in all assigned work calls.
  • Assist the Events PM and Lighting Supervisor in communication about special events with visiting companies, community partners, and other Jacob's Pillow departments to ensure the details of their lighting needs are clear and accurate.  
  • With the guidance and management of the Events PM and the Lighting Supervisor take the lead on the planning, preparation, implementation and operation of assigned activities and special events.
  • Act as the primary lighting point of contact for assigned special events.
  • Assist the The School at Jacob’s Pillow Production Manager in maintaining and making program based additions to the Perles Family Studio lighting system.
  • Participate in the creation of detailed and comprehensive paperwork including labor plans, changeover narratives and production schedules. 
  • Support the TST and DDT Electricians and Light Board Operators by assisting them during load-ins, changeovers, system checks, focuses and technical rehearsals.
  • Assist the Lighting Supervisor in making improvements to The Pillow’s lighting infrastructure and equipment.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of any necessary paperwork.
  • Remain in constant communication with the Events PM and Lighting Supervisor to ensure proper and necessary support for all assigned events and activities.
  • Maintain clean and orderly audio workspaces, backstage equipment and storage areas in all support spaces and audio storage areas. 
  • Participate in the training of Production Interns by offering constructive guidance and by acting as a role model and supportive co-worker.
  • Support and assist with the installation and operation of the Season Opening Gala as needed.
  • Provide support to Jacob’s Pillow Media Team in documenting performances, talks and events.
  • Support the installation of work into The Pillow’s exhibition spaces. 
  • Support the activation of Weather Plans for HJL and other events and activities.
  • Attend departmental, production, and all-staff meetings.
  • Under the general direction of the DoTP, assist with coordination of emergency response for staff and patrons in the event of an emergency or extreme weather.
  • Complete Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, and Cultural Competence Training (provided to all seasonal staff during the pre-season).
  • Assist other departments, including non-production departments, as needed.

Qualifications


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • 2-3 years of related experience as an electrician for live performance.
  • Strong knowledge and the ability to lead others on theatrical lighting and electrical systems and standing operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of production-related health and safety best practices and concerns and ability to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Proficiency with Google App suite as well Vectorworks, Lightwright, and other industry standard programs. 
  • Strong knowledge of DMX, Ethernet, and wireless theatrical networks, and proficiency in training others on their setup.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • Knowledge and experience working in dance production.  
  • Experience working in live event production.
  • Experience working in a performing arts educational environment.
  • Experience with stage operations, wardrobe, audio or video systems, equipment, software and standard operating procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Driving trucks and cargo vans in urban and rural areas.
  • Experience with advanced production technology such as augmented reality, virtual reality, or robotics.
  • Experience working outdoors or in non-conventional performance venues or productions.
  • Knowledge of residential and commercial electrical systems and upkeep.
  • Dante Level 1 certification.
