Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #1 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News).  JSEG has been a primary contractor for NASA since 1989 and supports marquee NASA programs, including the Space Launch System, International Space Station, space optics fabrication, earth and space sciences and advanced propulsion system development. As a partner in NASA’s next generation of space exploration, our jobs are literally history in the making by challenging today, reinventing tomorrow.

As a Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) intern, you will have an opportunity to work with engineers and scientists involved in such areas as hardware development, payload integration and operations, laboratory and test operations, modeling and simulation, space environments, scientific research and propulsion systems.

Internship provides an opportunity to gain valuable work experience related to your field of study. You will be engaged in paid, full-time work that allows you to apply classroom theories to space-flight missions. Your experience will also help you determine whether a career with the Space Program is right for you. If that is the case, your new skills and knowledge will help you begin your career at a higher level of responsibility and productivity. 

Position Description:

Jacobs is seeking an Avionics Integration Engineer Intern to join the Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL.  Jacobs offers a partnership in which you can grow personally and professionally within a framework of strong leadership, competitive compensation, and rewarding career paths. Among other projects, this work will support development of the Space Launch System (SLS) which will be the largest launch vehicle in history.  Join our team on the Engineering Services and Science Capability Augmentation (ESSCA) contract, and be a part of that history.

This work will be in support of the NASA Space Launch system as well as other current and future NASA programs or projects in the Electrical Integration and Power Subsystems Branch (ES32) at MSFC. 

The successful candidate will provide electrical integration support which may include electrical design, integration, avionics, systems, and insight engineering support for research, design, development, analysis, and testing of electrical systems.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Current enrollment in a university or college program leading to a BS degree in Engineering or related field.  An ABET accredited program is preferred. 

Must be able to provide own transportation.

Requirements:

  • Familiarization with electrical schematics, grounding diagrams and cable interconnect diagrams is desired.

  • Electrical engineering and/or physics skills with electrical integration background are desired.

  • Applicant must possess effective communication skills and a thorough knowledge of all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

  • Have strong customer relations skills.

  • Have the ability to multi-task and transition between quick turnaround assignments.

  • Show initiative and be proactive to make connections and build relationships.

  • Demonstrate the capability to plan and perform assignments independently and as a team.

  • Have completed the sophomore year of university studies.

  • Must be in good academic standing.

  • Maintain a minimum overall average of 3.0.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<5%).

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%). 

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
