AI Governance Consultant (Contractor)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled AI Governance Consultant to support the implementation and enhancement of governance frameworks and controls around AI and machine learning (ML) projects. This role will work closely with our internal AI governance lead to strengthen the organization’s capabilities in managing risks, compliance, monitoring, and operational governance, particularly with generative AI (GenAI) and large language models (LLMs).
Responsibilities:
• Assist in refining and expanding the AI governance framework to include traditional data and ML projects leveraging GenAI or LLM technologies.
• Perform initial and ongoing risk assessments of AI projects, clearly documenting potential risks, decisions, and controls required.
• Develop and implement robust monitoring strategies, including logging inputs/outputs, accuracy checks, model drift detection, and feedback loops.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders (legal, compliance, security, data privacy, audit) to ensure comprehensive governance coverage.
• Conduct regular audits of AI models in production to ensure adherence to defined governance standards and compliance requirements.
• Provide guidance on best practices derived from industry standards and regulatory changes, proactively recommending improvements.
• Prepare clear documentation, presentations, and communications for stakeholders to facilitate understanding and adoption of governance practices.
• Offer strategic insights based on industry benchmarking, collaborating with external consultants or industry experts as necessary.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 5 years of experience in AI/ML governance, risk management, compliance, or related fields.
• Hands-on experience with AI governance frameworks, model monitoring techniques, risk assessment methodologies, and compliance documentation.
• Familiarity with current regulations, guidelines, and emerging legislation impacting AI, data governance, privacy, and model explainability.
• Proven ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and risks clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working with large language models (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini, GPT models) and familiarity with model deployment lifecycle.
• Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and an ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
Preferred:
• Experience in regulated industries (energy, healthcare, finance).
• Previous experience engaging with audit teams or regulatory bodies.
• Professional certifications in risk management, governance, or data privacy (e.g., CRISC, CGEIT, CIPP).
