Overview

The Maintenance Technician – Apprentice plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient corporate office and warehouse environment. This position requires versatility and a willingness to learn basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building & grounds maintenance. The Maintenance Technician Apprentice’s responsibilities include routine equipment upkeep, adherence to safety protocols, and timely task completion. Effective time management, physical dexterity, and a commitment to safety are essential for success in this role. The Technician Apprentice also contributes to facility security and supports various teams, making them an integral part of the organization's daily operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Preserve a Pristine and Secure Environment: Uphold the highest standards of cleanliness and safety to ensure a comfortable and secure workplace for all employees.
• Comprehensive Facility Monitoring: Assist maintenance technician with continuously assessing and monitoring the condition of the facility, including electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, flooring, and walls, promptly addressing any issues that arise.
• Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine and ad-hoc maintenance on essential warehouse equipment, such as carts, roll-up doors, dock plates, pallet jacks, and power trucks, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition.
• Power Truck Maintenance: Perform thorough maintenance checks on power trucks, including inspecting and maintaining inspection sheets, watering, numbering, and other necessary tasks to guarantee their safe and efficient operation.
• Rack Integrity: Regularly inspect and repair warehouse racks as needed, ensuring their structural integrity and safety.
• Proficient Equipment Operation: Skillfully operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment when required, prioritizing safety and precision in all activities.
• Door Alarm Maintenance and Reporting: Maintain and troubleshoot door alarm systems, promptly reporting any issues and ensuring they are functioning correctly at all times.
• Security Oversight: Take responsibility for ensuring the security of the premises by ensuring that all doors are securely locked, and alarms are armed at the end of each shift, as well as during weekend and closing tasks.
• Seasonal grounds maintenance:  Properly operate a variety of lawn care power equipment. 

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and preventative maintenance procedures.
• Hand skills: Proficiency with hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers). Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measure and calipers.
• Problem-solving skills along with the ability to follow troubleshooting procedures.
• Task Execution and Procedural Adherence: Adept at comprehending and effectively following task checklists and instructions to carry out maintenance activities efficiently and accurately.
• Effective Time Management: Must exhibit exceptional time management skills, with the capability to manage and prioritize tasks according to deadlines, ensuring timely completion of maintenance assignments.
• A working knowledge and understanding of how to properly operate landscaping power and hand equipment.
• Safety Acumen: Proficient in adhering to and promoting safety procedures, fostering a secure work environment for all personnel and visitors.
• Valid Driver's License: A prerequisite for the role is a valid driver's license, along with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), reflecting a responsible and safe driving history.

Physical Requirements:

• Lifting: Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to [insert weight limit] pounds, utilizing proper lifting techniques to prevent injury.
• Standing and Walking: Capable of standing and walking for extended periods while performing maintenance duties throughout the facility.
• Bending and Stooping: Flexibility to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch when necessary to access and repair equipment or facilities in various positions.
• Climbing: Proficiency in climbing ladders, stairs, and using elevated platforms to reach elevated maintenance points within the facility.
• Manual Dexterity: Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling tools, equipment, and performing intricate maintenance tasks.
• Reaching: Ability to reach overhead and horizontally to access and maintain equipment and fixtures.
• Pushing and Pulling: Capability to push, pull, and maneuver heavy equipment and objects as required during maintenance activities.
• Visual Acuity: Sufficient visual acuity to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and safety labels.
• Hearing: Adequate hearing ability to communicate with colleagues, detect equipment malfunctions, and be aware of potential safety hazards in the environment.
• Climatic Tolerance: Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather while performing outdoor maintenance tasks.
• Respiratory Health: Capacity to wear and properly use personal protective equipment, including respiratory masks, when handling chemicals or working in dusty environments.
• Physical Stamina: Possess the physical stamina to perform strenuous tasks and respond to emergency maintenance requests as necessary.
