We are looking for an outstanding team member to be responsible for daily programming of Next Step To Success. As our Program Director, you would develop programming and education content for afterschool and summer programs. Our programming aligns with developing growth mindset, learned optimism, and personal agency. About Next Step to Success (NSTS):
Founded in 2021, Next Step to Success (NSTS) is dedicated to empowering Norfolk’s youth, helping them build the independence and resilience needed for long-term success and a fulfilling adult life. Our mission is to equip young people with the tools and opportunities to take ownership of their future, unlocking their “next step to success.” With a bold vision to halve Norfolk’s poverty rate within a generation, NSTS focuses on mentoring and developing teens aged 13-18 who live in Norfolk, Virginia.
Next Step To Success operates under the umbrella of The Barry Robinson Center. The Barry Robinson Center is a leading mental and behavioral health facility for military connected youth that is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for children and adolescents. With a focus on mental health and well-being, our team delivers comprehensive residential treatment and support services in a nurturing environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education, Social Work, Sociology or Psychology (Master's preferred)
- Minimum of three years' experience providing services to youth and families with an emphasis on minority youth from urban areas
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication skillsets to include oral, written and telephonic
- A passion for youth and youth development, with prior experience and knowledge of positive youth development, mental health, or educational services
Responsibilities:
- Manage year-round program schedule (summer programming & after-school programming)
- Develop programming and educational content for programs that align with our mission and vision, as well as refine lesson plans and teaching materials.
- Conduct regular program-related observations and provide timely, constructive feedback to staff
- Facilitate professional development workshops and training sessions
- Assist Executive Director with donor relations and providing tours to potential donors
- Serve as a resource for Success Coaches as well as assist in the supervision of youth to ensure successful operation of the program.
- Assist with family communication to include being a resource for families as well as assisting in implementation of special events with our youth's families
- Demonstrate leadership and a commitment to educating and empowering youth to reach their fullest potential

- After-School Program: Focused on homework support, life skills, and enrichment activities such as dance, theater, arts, gardening, cooking, and financial literacy.
