James Jordan Middle School (JJMS) is an award-winning public charter school with 450 students that has been serving Title I students in the San Fernando Valley for 20 years. In 2024, JJMS was recognized as one of the Best Schools by USA today. We are located on our new-build campus in Reseda CA. Our facilities include ample parking, an artificial turf field with track and indoor space for PE classes. We are a nurturing, productive, successful, but intense environment for both students and staff. We are looking for a teacher with a CA Physical Education Credential. We will also consider University Interns with experience in student athletic programs. This is a full-time position working with students in grades 6-8. We run our PE program 4 days a week with 60-minute periods Monday to Thursday. PE teachers have four hours of preparation time on our minimum day Fridays. Classes sizes are under 40 students. Our students come from underserved families and present us with a tremendous opportunity to create an environment where they will succeed beyond traditional expectations. We have a high percentage of students with Special Needs and English Learners. We keep class size low for students with weaker academic skills and we have a cadre of paraprofessionals to assist with lessons that benefit from a second adult in the classroom. We have an ethical code with the highest standards for student behavior. We have developed a sophisticated school wide system for supporting student behavior and, as a result, visitors are always amazed by the professionalism of our students. We don't pay as much as a big district, but we believe the quality of the work environment is hugely rewarding. The ideal candidate is ready to teach thinking skills in the physical education setting. Additional stipends are available for coaching seasonal teams after school. Decision-making is a very collaborative process with teacher input having a large influence on how the school is structured.
