General Information:

The Office of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices (OSARP) facilitates student development and restoration through a fair process that holds students accountable to community and university standards in order to support student and community success.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The Coordinator of Restorative Practices Outreach and Engagement reports to the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices in the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices and has responsibility for the following:

#1 – Serve as the primary liaison for Restorative Practices-related outreach and proactive efforts for the unit. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Creating and facilitating presentations, workshops, trainings and other outreach efforts pertaining to Restorative Practices for both the on-campus and off-campus communities, which includes recognized student organizations and student groups
  • Creating, coordinating, and facilitating proactive Restorative Circles and programs designed to foster a more restoratively-minded community for students, recognized student organizations, and student groups
  • Coordinating the recruitment and training of facilitators and Community Representatives for Restorative Practices processes
  • Working with campus and community partners to involve them in outreach efforts
  • Providing updates regarding the Restorative Practices unit to campus and community partners and volunteers, as needed
  • Creating, updating, and distributing Restorative Practices marketing materials, as needed
  • Collaborating with the Assistant Director for Educational Programs to coordinate outreach for OSARP, including representing OSARP at tabling events and resource fairs
  • Partnering with Restorative Practices staff to manage the Restorative Practices email account
  • Partnering with Restorative Practices staff, including the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices and Associate Director of Student Handbook & Educational Resources, to make big picture decisions regarding the unit

#2 – Support the Restorative Practices unit, case load, and programs. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Conducting Intake Meetings and other applicable meetings for assigned and referral cases in response to student, recognized student organization, and/or student group behavior
  • Facilitating Restorative Practices processes in response to student, recognized student organization, and/or student group behavior, including but not limited to Circles, Conferences, Shuttle Processes, and one-on-one programs
  • Participating, as needed, with Adaptable/Informal Resolution cases
  • Helping with the administration and management of the Restorative Practices caseload
  • Attending weekly Restorative Practices team meetings
  • Participating, as needed, with Restorative Practices assessment efforts

#3 – Participate as a Case Administrator
  • Participate as a Case Administrator for minor, major, and flexible cases.
  • Participate as an Advisor/Guide to Reporting and Responding Parties in the Individual Accountability Process, Sexual Misconduct Accountability Process, and Title IX Sexual Harassment Adjudication Process on rare occasions as needed.

#4 – Foster positive working relationships
  • Foster Positive Working Relationships with JMU Police, Residence Life, Title IX, Victim Advocacy, Athletics, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and others associated with student discipline on our campus as applicable to the position.
  • Consistently review language and practices of the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices through a restorative lens.
  • Serve on departmental, divisional and university-wide committees as applicable to the position.

#5 – Other duties as assigned
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices, Associate Director of Student Handbook & Educational Resources, or Director of the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's degree


Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Restorative Justice, or other related field
  • Experience with, or training in, Restorative Justice-related practices
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills
