Job Summary
The Assistant Manager, Underwriting Services manages a team of Technicians who support multiple divisions with respect to submission clearance, policy and endorsement processing, quality assurance, and facultative reinsurance data entry. In addition, the Assistant Manager will serve as a technical resource for all technicians within the department, assisting department management with the coordination of responsibilities and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Conform with, abide by, and enforce all internal and external regulations and policies
- Manage direct reports who actively support multiple underwriting departments
- Perform daily monitoring and reviews referral queues, submission clearance, and various reports and notices, ensuring productivity, accuracy, and timeliness
- Partner with the rest of Underwriting Services management team, senior leaders, and various departments across the organization to develop, improve, communicate, and enforce workflow procedures
- Assist the Manager in coordinating and communicating departmental priorities
- Provide feedback regarding team's performance the individual employees and to department leadership
- Collaborate with the Manager and other Assistant Managers setting individual's assignment of duties and responsibilities
- Assist management in setting coverage and backup responsibilities during team member absences
- Perform additional support duties for underwriting departments, as needed, including submission entry, loss run requests, policy/endorsement booking and
- issuance and policy/endorsement quality assurance
- Conduct performance management duties including setting goals, tracking progress, delivering regular feedback, and completing the annual review process
- Participate in the interview and selection process
- Train and mentor new and existing technicians
- Assist with testing for process or system changes
- Act as backup to the Manager and other Assistant Managers
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of E&S insurance operations
- Demonstrated experience in the ability to lead, motivate, influence, and mentor staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong team building skills and the ability to foster strong team dynamics and collaboration
- Ability to identify and make process and procedure improvement recommendations

- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Experience and Education
- High school diploma required
- Associates degree preferred
- Minimum of one year of P&C insurance experience required
- Minimum of three years of professional experience required
- Minimum of one year of management experience preferred
